Diet Blog: Day One (Again)

View Category I might have done a lot of rebuilding on the blog and its database, but, speaking personally, I really let myself go.  My diet went off the rails and I didn’t even seem to care.  I only just today weighed myself—probably for the first time this year—and I’m embarrassed to say I’ve gained thirteen pounds since last time, coming in at 219.
At the start of the year we were having our workplace completely renovated and I found it was easier to grab some fast food on the way to work rather than try to eat my low-carb meals amid so much activity.  This continued as my habit even after the renovations were done, since, as we know, fried foods are so dang tasty.  I gave up fast food for Lent, but I had gotten so used to eating in the car that I replaced fast food with party store snacks.  I eagerly returned to fast food after Lent, but at least tried limiting it to only Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays.  I finally admitted, just this week, that this was a halfassed way to diet and, without necessarily planning to, I gave up fast food again—along with limiting my snack intake while at work.  I saw promising results soon after (and am loath to think how much I weighed last week), but it pains me to think I’ve got to pretty much start all over again.  And that I can’t have any more Popcorn Chicken!
View Category Since I’ve been overeating, why not pig out on multiple topics?  I just read that the Motion Picture Academy has nixed the idea of a special Oscar for stunt work.  I’d never thought about it but a Stunts Oscar sounds like a pretty good idea.  I mean, why not.  Stuntpeople play an important part in many movies and their work can be more memorable than make-up or editing for the average viewer.  But Academy director Frank Pierson cites how the Academy is trying to lessen the number of awards, because I guess ABC’s telecast of the awards (on March 5 2006 by the way) is more important than the awards themselves.  ...Um, Mr Pierson?  Ever heard of the Technical Awards?
View Category I see someone was referred to my site via a search for images of Detroit buildings.  I don’t normally fulfill such requests (especially as most requests for “fat guy” images are too disturbing) but it just so happens I have such an image, courtesy of the currently flaky SEI boards.  So, let’s proceed on our tour of Detroit…

Null & Voided

View Category A moment of silence as we mark the passing of Winamp, one of the favorite programs I ever downloaded and one of my favorites to use.  According to Betanews.com: “The last members of the original Winamp team have said goodbye to AOL and the door has all but shut on the Nullsoft era” now that AOL has split itself into four different divisions.  “Only a few employees remain to prop up the once-ubiquitous digital audio player with minor updates, but no further improvements to Winamp are expected.
“Winamp’s abandonment comes as no surprise to those close to the company who say the software has been on life support since the resignation of Nullsoft founder and Winamp creator Justin Frankel last January.”
I always like Winamp since it was a nice little program that did what it was supposed to do and didn’t (for the most part) try to take over my operating system so like many other programs try to do.  It’s also one of the few Windows programs I miss now that I’m on OS X.  It feels like the end of an era.  (And, incidentally, my birthday on Tuesday marks my tenth anniversary online, back when I used Prodigy on my Packard Bell.)
View Category Diet Blog: Day Something-something.  I’ve veered so far off my South Lyon diet that it’s tough to get back on track.  I weighed myself this morning and came in at 206, which I guess isn’t too bad considering all the snacks and fast food I’ve allowed myself to have.  Time to get back at it though.
View Category Here’s the SFG Site of the Week, if not for the next four years.  Sorry Everybody.com is the site where despondent blue-staters can apologize for November 2 and beg forgiveness in advance for the travesty that will be the Bush second term.  Not only is it touching to read all the outpourings of emotion, it’s also reassuring to see the overseas responses.  Everybody’s talking about the site, and with good reason.

Diet Blog: Day Ninety-Eight

View Category Taterpants recently used my impregnable spam-free Shoutbox to inquire about the progress of my diet.  First of all, what the hell kind of name is Taterpants?  Second of all, I’ve got good news and bad news.  The good news is I finally broke the thirty pound barrier.  I last weighed myself on Wednesday, and found I was 208.  This not only got me past 210, where I’ve been hovering for a while, but it also means I’ve lost 30 and a half pounds.
The bad news is that I doubt this loss will last.  Easter weekend is coming up; and although I don’t plan on pigging out on chocolate bunnies and jellybeans, I can’t let the occasion go by without a Cadbury egg or four.  Plus Grandma and Grandpa will be making tasty homemade ravioli.  Thusly, I don’t plan on weighing myself till late in the following week.
Complicating things further, I’ve got a vacation coming up in a couple weeks, which will probably feature more loose interpretations of the South Pacific menus.

Diet Blog: Day Eighty-Three

View Category A setback.  A week ago I weighed in at 210½...but that was before our Friday night poker bash.  I let myself go, indulging in lots of chips, lots of varieties thereof, and especially lots of sweet tantalizing cheese dip.  At the very least I stayed away from beer, drinking only iTunes Pepsis (and winning four out of six times).  Regardless I have yet to diet off the effects of that night.  Today’s weigh-in was a disappointing 212, which means I’ve actually started gaining!  I did go down a waist-size though.

Diet Blog: Day Sixty-Six

View Category I’m at 212 today.  That’s 2½ pounds from the last posted weigh-in.  (1½ pounds from one I did a week ago Monday and forgot to mention.)  That makes my total weight lost 26½ pounds since January 3.  It’ll be nice to get under 210 again…and hopefully that will happen soon.

Diet Blog: Day Fifty-Seven

View Category I finished Phase Two yesterday for the second time, which seemed a good occasion to weigh myself.  I have better news than my last Diet Blog entry.  I weighed in at 214½, which marks a 3½ pound loss since last time, and a total loss of 24 pounds.
I was considering modifying the South Bend menu a bit, mixing and matching the best meals from the two Phases, but now I think I might just go ahead and repeat Phase One over again (for a third time).  I like the increased weight loss…almost as much as I dislike all the asparagus.

Diet Blog: Day Fifty-One

View Category I’ve completed the first week of Phase Two again, and, like last time, my results have tapered off.  In fact, I only lost half a pound since the last weigh-in, with my current weight at an even 218 pounds.
Time to get back on track and to stop rationalizing I can afford those trips to the office snack machine.

Diet Blog: Day Forty-Two

View Category Today’s weigh-in is unofficial, since I did it after I had breakfast.  Still, the news is good—especially considering I fell off the wagon a little this week.  The repetition of asparagus and cherry tomatoes and fish had gotten so monotonous I started treating myself to an occasional trip to the snack machine at work.  Nevertheless, I weighed in at 218½ this morning: a three pound loss since last week and an even twenty pounds lost since the diet began.
