Intrepid reporter Sith in Heels, of the SEI message board, was at the Live 8 concert in Barrie on Saturday. This is the third and last part of her eyewitness account. As before, all clickable images lead to a larger size.
Jet was next. I missed the first part of this act for another porta potty trip but Mr Heels got some pics. I was back by their last number. I’m not a big Jet fan but thier songs are bouncy and the crowd liked that.
Jan Arden came on stage and declared “I want you to know that I’ve been Motley Crue’s opening act for more than one day now. It’s going good.”
Her tunes were great and her last song she dedicated to “Mothers, everywhere.” We were wondering why she ran off the stage before the song was completely over, but my mom told me that Jan’s mother died very recently and the reason she stormed off was because she was all crying and stuff. She sounded great.
Mötley Crüe!!!! This set rocked and, really, how could it not have.
The Tragically Hip. The crowd goes wild! I got a bit of a movie clip of these guys. I’ll post that shit when I figure out how to deal with the movie files and stuff.
Next was DMC and friends. We were surprized about their place in the line up but wow, the place was hopping. There were a few Aerosmith guys with them too and they did ‘Walk this Way’. Also there was a version of ‘All Along the Watchtower’. Excellent set. Crowd loved it.
Apparently there was a beat box session backstage with DMC and Steve from BNL. I’d like to see if that got filmed at all.
The Ladies!!! Awesome group, great set. They know how to work a crowd. They also managed to turn ‘If I Had a Million Dollars’ into a tune with a message. I got a bit of vid of them too.
Last act: Neil Young
I’m not the biggest Neil Young fan but it was all right. The crowd liked him. He did a song with his wife and then some slow gospel kinda thing with a black chorus.
Then Neil left the stage and Tom and Dan came out to try and send people home. I don’t know if they were pretending or not because we all knew that the show couldn’t close without a rousing rendition of ‘Rockn’ in a Free World’.
And then everyone got on stage and did the big finale we were expecting. It was cool but there was some sound issues. My mom said it sounded ok on TV so it must have just been our speakers. No pics of this but I got vid. I would have like to vid all of this song but I had to stop filming to rock out.
After the big ending tune we all broke into a rousing version of ‘Oh Canada’. It was very moving. The Toronto Star the next day bashed us for singing the national anthem because Live 8 wasn’t about nationalism but what do you expect the day after Canada Day.
