Today in Food (2004/03/03)
Consider this the antithesis of Super Tueday. McDonald’s announced today it is downsizing its supersizing. The 7-ounce fries (610 calories) and 42-ounce drink containers will be gone by the end of the year. Some say this is in reaction to criticisms of McDonald’s unhealthy menu, others that this is just a business decision. McDonald’s claims the decision comes as a way to simplify their menu.
It would be easy to consider this as terrible, heartbreaking news for us. But the truth is I don’t know many short fat guys who supersize. As much as we (usually) like McDonald’s fries, ordering them in bulk always seemed particularly indulgent. So I can see why McDonald’s would consider this to be a business decision above being a good PR move. (From AP and Yahoo!.)
